The design is a vibrant and symbolic representation of the region's history and heritage.

Design Elements

The shield, the central element of the design, is bisected diagonally from top-left to bottom-right. The upper portion displays a gold (yellow) background emblazoned with a prominent black bear's head. The lower portion features a blue background with a golden (yellow) ship. Overlaid vertically across the ship are two yellow oars.

Superimposed over the entire design is a bold diagonal bend – a stripe that runs from the top-right to the bottom-left – divided into red and white halves. This layering creates depth and visual interest.

Symbolism & Meaning

Each element of this coat of arms carries significant meaning. The ship and oars prominently displayed in the design are a direct reference to the ferry that once operated on the Thur River at Amlikon, a vital historical link. The black bear's head is a nod to the historical connection between Bissegg and the Abbey of St. Gallen.

The colors also tell a story. The yellow (gold) and blue are derived from the arms of the Lords of Griesenberg, while the red and white are a reflection of the Abbey of Reichenau, which held feudal lands in the area.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/amlikonbissegg-blazon-switzerland-coat-of-arms-pint-glass-16oz-16oz-position1.webp?v=1764543832
