The design is a vibrant testament to the history and identity of the now-defunct county in England.

The Shield's Imagery

The shield itself is divided into two main fields. The lower field is dominated by a dragon, rendered in a striking "counterchanged" design. This means the dragon's form alternates between red (Gules), representing strength and valor, and gold (Or), symbolizing generosity. The dragon's presence pays homage to the historical ties with Somerset.

At the top of the shield, a "Chief wavy barry wavy of six Azure and Argent" is featured. This heraldic term describes a wavy band comprising six stripes of alternating blue (Azure) and white (Argent). The undulating lines of the "Chief" evoke the flowing waters of the River Avon, a central geographical feature of the county.

Symbolism and Meaning

The central dragon is a powerful symbol, taken from the historic arms of Somerset, representing the heritage of the area. The counterchanged coloring of the dragon itself denotes the unification of the diverse constituent areas that made up Avon.

The wavy stripes along the top of the design further ground the design by reflecting the River Avon. These visual representations come together to create a symbol of unity, geographical prominence, and historical significance.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/arms-of-avon-county-council-england-coat-of-arms-shot-glass-15oz-15oz-position1.webp?v=1768339195
