The artwork is inspired by the "Codex 148," also known as the Armorial Beyeren, a medieval manuscript containing numerous coats of arms.

Design Elements and Meaning

The central visual element is a shield, likely divided into quarters. One prominent section features the iconic Bavarian heraldry: a pattern of white (argent) and blue (azure) lozenges. This geometric design is a direct reference to the Wittelsbach dynasty, the rulers of Bavaria, and symbolizes their heritage and authority.

The presence of another quarter, potentially featuring lions (likely representing Holland), indicates the historical connections between the Bavarian dukes and the Low Countries. This quartering reflects the Wittelsbach family's holdings in the region, including territories that are now part of the Netherlands. The combined symbolism represents the intertwining of Bavarian and Dutch histories.

The name "Aubert Duc de Baverie" is, according to historical research, a misattribution or later addition. Nevertheless, the artwork’s design clearly celebrates the historical significance of the Bavarian dukes and their influence within the region and the Low Countries. The overall design serves as a visual testament to the complexities of history and heritage, blending two heraldic traditions into a compelling visual statement.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/aubert-duc-de-baverie-codex-148-wapen-netherlands-coat-of-arms-shot-glass-15oz-15oz-position1.webp?v=1768346776
https://gomugyourself.com/products/aubert-duc-de-baverie-codex-148-wapen-netherlands-coat-of-arms-shot-glass-1-5oz
