Its letter and numerals are set large and plain, the way a road sign sets them so they can be read at a glance from a moving vehicle. Nothing decorative competes with the designation. The layout is direct and functional, with the sign's text carrying the entire composition.

Meaning & Symbolism

Alphanumeric route codes are how Australian roads are identified on maps, in navigation systems and on signage across regional networks. A designation like B675 is a small piece of shared infrastructure: it tells a driver which road they are on and where it leads. The design honours that system of mapping and travel, turning a working piece of transport signage into an object of geographic interest for anyone who has ever followed a route number across the map.

On the Mixing Glass

A tall vessel gets handled from every side, so the artwork wraps around it and the route number stays in view as the glass is lifted, turned and passed across the table. The numerals reward a closer look, which suits a drink that is held and admired rather than glanced at. For the road-tripper, the map-lover or the friend who still names every highway they pass, it is a cheeky way to keep a favourite route close at hand.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/aus-alphanumeric-route-b675-australia-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SLPH-16OZ-1FV85-front.webp?v=1793625253
