Letters and numerals are the main graphic information, set out in the plain, legible way that road markers are meant to be read at speed. Nothing competes with the code. The layout is uncluttered, so the eye moves straight to the identifier and stays there.

Meaning & Symbolism

Alphanumeric route codes are how Australia names and organises its road network. A combination of letters and numbers tells a driver where a road belongs in the wider system, turning a line on a map into a route with its own identity. The artwork honours that logic of navigation, geography and transit, and treats a single code as a small emblem of how the country connects its towns and distances.

Designed for the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is held in the hand, tilted, filled and poured, so the design is seen mainly in motion and at close range. The route code wraps a curved, straight-sided vessel that turns as it is handled, which suits a sign built around a single bold identifier. Whenever the glass is lifted, the code comes back into view. It makes a fitting choice for anyone who likes their travel memories in a more practical form, and a conversation starter for anyone who has ever followed a route number across the Australian outback.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/aus-alphanumeric-route-b74-australia-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SLPH-16OZ-1FV8E-front.webp?v=1793624395
