The alphanumeric code sits at the centre of the field and does all the work, with no decoration pulling the eye away from it. The letter and numerals are set in a structured, evenly spaced typeface, echoing the way route markers are laid out on official directional signage. Nothing crowds the designation, so the arrangement reads at a glance, the way a driver would read a shield while passing at speed.

Meaning & Symbolism

Route designations like B78 are the grammar of Australian travel. A letter and number together tell a navigator which class of road they are on and where it leads within the wider network. Isolating that code turns a functional marker into an object of study, celebrating the quiet system that guides travellers across long distances, from regional highways to country back roads. It is a tribute to the infrastructure most people only notice when they get lost.

On the Mixing Glass

A pint-style vessel wraps the artwork around a curved, continuous surface, so the designation is seen in pieces as the glass is turned in the hand, much like following a route one stretch at a time. The clear sides let the drink sit within the design, and the sturdy base gives the marker a steady, grounded presence on the table. It is a gift for anyone who has ever squinted at a road sign and wondered where it was taking them.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/aus-alphanumeric-route-b78-australia-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SLPH-16OZ-1FV8I-front.webp?v=1793624177
