The letter B and the numerals 87 dominate the centre of the design, with nothing competing for attention. The typography is clear and evenly spaced, so the designation reads at a glance, the way it would from a moving vehicle. There is no decorative border or background imagery, which keeps the eye on the alphanumeric sequence and its shape.

Meaning & Symbolism

Route codes are how a continent keeps track of its roads. Australia's alphanumeric system pairs a letter with a number to identify a route across regions, allowing drivers, planners and transport authorities to refer to the same road without ambiguity. The B87 marker stands for that shared language of navigation. It belongs to the country's transport network, and the design honours the working signage that guides travellers from one town to the next.

Designed for the Turning Glass

A route marker is meant to be read as you move past it, and this design works the same way. As you lift the glass and turn it in your hand, the B87 designation passes across your line of sight, much like a sign coming into view on a long stretch of road. It is an apt pairing for a vessel made for mixing and pouring, since the code keeps its place as the glass is tipped and turned, and it makes a fitting talking point for anyone who has ever followed a route number across the map.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/aus-alphanumeric-route-b87-australia-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SLPH-16OZ-1FV8S-front.webp?v=1793623578
