The C117 marker sits at the centre of the layout with nothing competing for attention, and the letter and numerals are the clear focus. The graphic follows the standardised arrangement used on Australian road signage, so the spacing and proportions feel exactly as functional as the real thing. Nothing decorative is added, which is the point.

Meaning & Symbolism

Route markers are how Australia organises its roads. Each code is a small piece of a systematic approach to naming and numbering the national network, and a marker like C117 identifies one specific transit route among thousands. The design honours that system, turning a piece of wayfinding into something you can read at a glance. For anyone who has followed a route across the Australian landscape, or studied how its transport network is built, the code carries a whole map of associations.

Turned in Your Hands

A mug is a object you rotate as you drink, so the marker reveals itself in pieces, letter first, then numerals, then the full code as the cup comes round. It suits the slow, utilitarian rhythm of a morning brew. For a traveller, a road-trip friend or someone who still reads signposts for fun, it is a quiet nod to the open road, and a cheeky conversation starter at the kitchen table.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/aus-alphanumeric-route-c117-australia-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-SLPH-11OZ-1FUZ7-front.webp?v=1793643591
