The route identifier sits at the centre of the artwork, with the letter and numerals doing all the work and nothing competing with them. There is no scenery, no decorative border and no illustrative flourish. The eye lands on the code first, then reads it as a sign would be read from a moving vehicle: quickly, left to right, without needing to pause.

Meaning & Symbolism

Route codes such as C154 are how travellers and mapmakers tell one road from another across a vast landscape. The letter groups a route into a class, and the number places it within that class, so a single short string carries a whole network of connections. This artwork takes that naming convention, used across Australian transit and mapping, and presents it as a piece of design in its own right.

Built for the Way a Glass Is Held

A pint-sized glass is a tall, curved surface that turns in the hand as it is lifted, tilted and set down again. The route code is laid out to be read in passing, so every turn of the glass brings the identifier back into view, much as a sign comes into view on a long drive. It is a suitably cheeky match for a vessel meant to be picked up and used.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/aus-alphanumeric-route-c154-australia-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SLPH-16OZ-1FV06-front.webp?v=1793619500
