australian-state-route-136-australia-road-sign-white-coffee-mug
Australian State Route 136 (Australia) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

Australian State Route 136 (Australia) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

This design takes a single road number and makes it the whole picture: the route marker for Australian State Route 136, set plainly and without decoration.

Line, Number & Space

The composition is minimalist. The sign's numerals 136 carry the design, drawn in a clean, sign-style lettering that reads at a glance. Nothing competes with them. The sign shape sits at the centre of the field, with generous open space around it, so the number stands out in the way a roadside marker does when you pass it at speed. The result is quiet and direct, and the eye settles on the figures first.

The Route Behind the Number

Australia numbers its state routes to show how towns, regions and highways connect within each state. Route 136 is one link in that network, and its marker tells a driver which road they are on and where it leads. The design honours that everyday function. It turns a piece of wayfinding into something to look at, and it recalls the long stretches of road that make up much of the country's geography. For anyone who has followed a route number across a map, the image speaks directly to that experience.

Made for the Hand

A mug is turned in the hand as it is drunk from, so the marker is seen in pieces: the numerals appear as the mug rotates, then the sign shape returns. Each sip brings the route back into view, which suits a design built on a single number. It is a small, personal way to keep a road close, whether it marks a journey you have taken or one you still plan to drive. Gift it to a road-tripper, a map lover or anyone who keeps track of the places they have been.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/australian-state-route-136-australia-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-STRSTT-11OZ-1FUDE-front.webp?v=1793641040
