The layout is plain and direct, with no decoration competing with the lettering, so the number reads at a glance, the way a driver would read it from the road.

Meaning & Symbolism

The B designation identifies a federal and state main road, separating it from the faster Autobahn and Schnellstraße networks. Bundesstraße 12, known locally as Brunner Straße, links Mödling and Brunn am Gebirge to Vienna over roughly 13.6 kilometres. Although it moved from federal to state administration in 2002, it kept its historic B12 designation, so the sign carries both its original classification and its present role as a working artery into the capital. Along the way it takes on the local names Breitenfurter Straße and Eichenstraße, and the number ties those corridors together.

Made for the Mug in Your Hands

A mug is turned in the hand, so the sign is seen in pieces as the cup rotates, each turn bringing the numerals back into view. The design is also meant to be discovered: as hot coffee or tea warms the cup, the artwork appears, so the road sign shows itself slowly over the first sip of a morning. It makes a cheeky conversation starter for anyone who has ever driven the B12 into Vienna.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/b12-at-austria-road-sign-color-changing-mug-11oz-GMY-MUG-BT-11OZ-141-front.webp?v=1793655691
