The central element is a striking heraldic design, rich in symbolism and historical significance.

The Shield

The focal point of the design is the shield (écu). It features a silver (argent) field, upon which rests a prominent sixteen-pointed red (gules) star. This star is the most recognizable element of the Blacas d’Aulps arms.

Additional Elements & Symbolism

Behind the shield, two red (gules) banners are crossed in a saltire (X-shape). Each banner displays a sixteen-pointed white star, echoing the central motif. The shield is surmounted by a coronet of a prince and draped with a ducal mantle, signifying the family’s elevated status.

The crest, a green (sinople) oak tree emerging from a French baron’s coronet, provides a canting reference to the family name. "Blacas" in Provençal is said to mean “white oak.” The sixteen-pointed star itself is historically connected to a vow made during the Crusades by a Blacas ancestor.

Overall Impression

The overall composition is one of heraldic formality, distinguished by the prominent star. The use of traditional heraldic colors and elements conveys a sense of history, nobility, and the family’s legacy in Provence, as represented by the motto "Pro Deo, Pro Rege" (For God, For the King) and the "Vaillance" war cry.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/blason-de-la-famille-de-blacas-daulps-france-coat-of-arms-shot-glass-15oz-15oz-position1.webp?v=1768363157
https://gomugyourself.com/products/blason-de-la-famille-de-blacas-daulps-france-coat-of-arms-shot-glass-1-5oz
