This design represents a significant piece of the town's heritage, reflecting its historical roots before its merger in 1977.

Design Elements and Symbolism

The artwork centers around a heraldic shield, a traditional form of medieval and modern coats of arms. This older design, although not fully detailed in available sources, likely followed the common heraldic practices of its time. It would have featured a quartered shield, dividing the space into sections that display symbolic representations of the area's history.

The design would have incorporated elements related to the local historical lords and influential abbeys. Expect to find symbols that may include: a striped lion, possibly derived from the St. Bavo Abbey in Ghent; a cross representing local feudal domains; and possibly keys related to ties with St. Peter's Abbey. Additional symbols could reference noble families and territorial authorities of the region.

The quartered sections would likely display a combination of these heraldic charges, reflecting the area's historic rulers and ecclesiastical authorities, all bound together in a visually compelling and historically significant composition.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/blason-ville-be-sint-martens-latem-ancien-belgium-coat-of-arms-pint-glass-16oz-16oz-position1.webp?v=1764557349
https://gomugyourself.com/products/blason-ville-be-sint-martens-latem-ancien-belgium-coat-of-arms-pint-glass-16oz
