The code BR-243 and the word Brazil carry the composition, with the abbreviation jct set alongside them as the single element that changes the meaning. Nothing decorative competes with the text, so the eye reads the route number first and the junction note second. The layout is spare and horizontal, echoing the signage that guides drivers through intersections.

Meaning & Symbolism

BR-243 is a designation within the Brazilian federal highway network, and the "jct" marks a point where routes meet or divide. The design therefore stands for navigation rather than a single place: a moment of choice where one road gives way to another. For anyone who reads road numbers for pleasure, it captures the particular language of national highway systems, where a code tells you as much about the country's geography as a map does.

On the Mixing Glass

A tall, curved surface gives this design its own kind of reading. The lettering wraps around the body as the glass is turned in the hand, so the route number and the word Brazil come into view one line at a time. It suits a glass that gets handled and rotated while mixing or pouring, and it makes a fitting talking point for a friend who has spent time on Brazilian roads.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/br-243-jct-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-BR243-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793793313
