The shield is rounded at its upper edge and narrows to a notch at the bottom, with a thin border set inside its contour. The letters “BR” and the numerals “418” are placed one above the other, with “jct” giving the instruction. Typography carries the whole design, and nothing else is added to the field.

Meaning & Symbolism

“BR” marks a federal highway, one of the national routes that carry traffic between states, economic regions and frontier towns in Brazil. The number 418 gives this road its place in the network, and “jct” signals a junction where the route is joined or left. The format is the current standard for Brazilian federal route markers, and the sign records how the country names and numbers its major roads.

Rotated on the Desk

A mug on a desk is turned by its handle, so the shield appears and disappears as the cup moves. The rounded top and notched base stay recognisable across the curve of the ceramic, and the central type is still legible from the handle side. The design is simple enough to hold attention through a long working morning.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/br-418-jct-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-BR418-11OZ-1FS72-front.webp?v=1793835675
