The shield has a squared upper edge tapering to a pointed base, drawn as a single outline with an inner border line. BR and the numerals 898 occupy the upper part of the shield, and jct is placed beneath in a smaller line. The composition is symmetrical and free of extra marks, so the function of the sign is obvious at a glance.

Meaning & Symbolism

In Brazil the BR prefix marks a federal highway, and the three-digit number places the route within the national road network. The jct label identifies a junction, the place where two roads meet or part. The shield is the standard form for Brazilian route markers, so the design stands for the wayfinding that moves people and goods across the country.

In the Hand, Turned Round

A mug is turned as it is lifted, so the shield moves around the curved wall of the cup and is taken in as a series of views. The inner border follows the outline of the mug, and the BR 898 lettering remains upright from the handle side. The white field keeps the black sign readable as the cup rotates.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/br-898-jct-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-BR898-11OZ-front.webp?v=1793834908
