The shield is drawn as a double-outlined form with a notch cut into its bottom point. BR and the numerals 969 sit in the centre of the shield, and the jct label is set plainly beneath. The layout is symmetrical and free of ornament, so the marker is clear before any detail is noticed.

Meaning & Symbolism

In Brazil the BR prefix denotes a federal highway, and the three-digit number fixes the route within the national road network. The jct label identifies a point where roads meet or separate. The shield is the standard Brazilian form for route markers, so the design stands for the wayfinding that connects regions across the country, rendered in the plain language of road signs.

Cradled and Turned

A mug is turned as it is lifted, so the shield travels around the curved wall of the cup and reveals itself in pieces. The double border follows the outline of the mug, and the BR 969 lettering stays upright from the handle side. The clean white field lets the black sign read quickly with each turn.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/br-969-jct-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-BR969-11OZ-front.webp?v=1793835085
