The composition is centred on the text, and the alphanumeric sequence does all the work: the word Brasil, the Portuguese word estado for state, the number 690, and the abbreviation jct for junction. The layout is structured and direct, with no added ornament, so the eye moves through the sequence in order and lands on the numerals at the centre of the piece.

Meaning & Symbolism

Road signs exist to name a place and point the way, and this artwork borrows that purpose. Estado and jct mark it as a state-level route and a junction, so the designation tells travellers where they are and which road they are on. The piece carries Brazil's regional identity through its own code rather than through pictures, and its clarity is the point: the name is the image.

On the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is a tall vessel held close and turned in the hand, so a sign-style line of text suits it well. As the glass is lifted and tilted, the designation travels with it and reads from the angle you hold it. Put it on a shelf or in a gift bag, and it becomes a small roadside marker for a trip, a home state, or a friend who has one.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/brasil-estado-690-jct-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-BRSSTD-16OZ-1FPZY-front.webp?v=1793667888
