Its letters run across the surface in a centred arrangement, with the country name leading, followed by the word for state, then the route number 864 and the abbreviation jct. The numerals and letters share equal weight, so the eye reads the sequence from left to right, the way a driver takes in a sign at speed. The composition is minimal and direct, with no border or illustration to soften the message.

Meaning & Symbolism

Each element is a piece of wayfinding. Brasil names the country, estado marks the state level of Brazil's regional divisions, 864 is the route number, and jct is the standard abbreviation for junction, the point where roads meet and a traveller must choose a direction. Together they turn a stretch of tarmac into a specific place on the map. The design draws on the tradition of Brazilian road signage, where a route number and a junction note tell travellers exactly where they are and where the next turn will take them.

On the Mixing Glass

This is a glass that gets handled. It narrows toward the base, so it sits comfortably in the hand, and the stacked lettering reads cleanly as the glass is turned and lifted. Because it works as both a shaker and a serving glass, the sign travels from the mixing bench to the table, always held close and turned to read. A message this direct suits an object that is picked up and turned in the hand, and a gift that tells the recipient exactly where they stand.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/brasil-estado-864-jct-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-BRSSTD-16OZ-1FPTW-front.webp?v=1793667167
