broad-pennant-of-the-grand-duchess-of-russia-estonia-white-coffee-mug
Broad pennant of the Grand Duchess of Russia (Estonia) White Coffee Mug

Broad pennant of the Grand Duchess of Russia (Estonia) White Coffee Mug

This design shows a naval pennant of Imperial Russia, built on a deep navy field with a Saint Andrew's cross and a gold roundel bearing a double-headed eagle.

Visual Elements & Composition

Navy blue covers most of the design and sets the tone. A saltire cross, the diagonal Saint Andrew's cross, runs across the field and divides it into bold triangular and rectangular sections. Red and white appear in smaller areas, and a white triangular wedge sits against the edge of the pennant. The gold circular roundel is the focal point, holding the double-headed eagle in a crisp flat-vector style. A little black provides a sharp edge to the outline.

Meaning & Symbolism

The Saint Andrew's cross recalls the naval ensign of the Russian Empire, and the double-headed eagle is the imperial emblem of the Romanov dynasty. The pennant is a heraldic form used to mark rank and office at sea. Its title ties it to a grand duchess and to Estonia, placing it in the Baltic lands that were part of the Russian Empire in the late imperial era.

In the Hand, Turning Slowly

A mug is turned in the hand as you drink, so the navy field and the saltire pass across your view as the cup rotates. The gold roundel catches the light near the handle, where your attention rests. Set on a desk or a shelf, the pennant becomes a small, steady piece of imperial heraldry.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/broad-pennant-of-the-grand-duchess-of-russia-estonia-white-coffee-mug-11oz-position1.webp?v=1772635282
https://gomugyourself.com/products/broad-pennant-of-the-grand-duchess-of-russia-estonia-white-coffee-mug
