A single white five-pointed star sits at the centre of the blue section, and it is the only figure in the composition, so the eye goes straight to it. The shapes are plain: a triangle, a clean edge, and a field of colour with nothing added. The effect is geometric and restrained, with no shading or ornament to distract from the emblem.

Meaning & Symbolism

The tricolour of blue, white and red carries the national identity of France, while the star marks the club itself. The Yacht Club de France was founded in June 1867, and its statutes, recorded in the 1868 Yearbook, prescribed this exact pennant soon after. The design therefore dates from the 19th century and stands as a record of French maritime tradition and the prestige the club has held since its beginnings.

On the Mixing Glass

A pennant is designed to be seen as a whole, and a mixing glass is a tall vessel that turns in the hand as it is lifted and poured. As the glass rotates, the triangle and its central star pass across the surface in one continuous sweep, so the emblem reads as a complete image from every angle. It makes a fitting gift for anyone who loves sailing, or who likes a little nautical history with their evening drink.
