The centre carries a circular emblem, with a wheat wreath, a hammer and wheat sheaf, a red star and a tricolour ribbon. Gold and a touch of light blue sit in the emblem, and the overall layout is balanced and symmetrical.

Socialist Heraldry of 1949

The standard was adopted in 1949 for the cavalry and motorised rifle regiments of the Hungarian Defence Forces. Its emblem is the 1949 to 1950 version of the coat of arms of the Hungarian People's Republic, which replaced the earlier Kossuth arms that had been framed by oak and olive branches. The swap of arms records the political reorganisation of the state in those early years of the Cold War.

Reading the Standard on a Mug

A mug is turned in the hand, so the bordered field passes across the eye and the central emblem comes round to face the viewer on each turn. The pennant border runs along the curved surface and gives the design a continuous edge, which suits a flag rendered as a single, uninterrupted panel.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/cavalry-standard-of-the-hungarian-defence-forces-1949-1950-hungary-white-coffee-mug-11oz-position1.webp?v=1756800584
https://gomugyourself.com/products/cavalry-standard-of-the-hungarian-defence-forces-1949-1950-hungary-white-coffee-mug
