The design prominently features a striking visual representation of the Altnau COA.

Artwork and Visual Elements

The central design element is a cross that spans the entire surface of the glass. This cross is not a standard, solid shape; instead, it's a "gyronny cross," a stylized form composed of triangular segments. These segments alternate in color, creating a dynamic visual effect.

The background color is white (argent), providing a clean and crisp canvas for the cross. The cross itself is divided into sections of red (gules) and black (sable), creating a vibrant contrast.

Symbolism and Meaning

The design's colors and arrangement carry historical significance. The red segments of the cross represent Altnau's historical connections to the Domstift (Cathedral Chapter) of Constance, a link documented since the 12th century.

The black segments of the cross symbolize a later period in Altnau's history (from 1471) when the municipality fell under the bailiwick of the city of Constance.

This design, proposed in 1950, embodies the history and identity of Altnau in a visually compelling and historically rich form.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/che-altnau-coa-switzerland-coat-of-arms-pint-glass-16oz-16oz-position1.webp?v=1764563263
