Centered on this field is a prominent gold (or) Maltese cross. This cross pays homage to the historical ties of Plan-les-Ouates to the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem (the Knights Hospitaller/Malta), and their association with the nearby settlement of Compesières.

Bottom Half (Base)

The lower section of the shield presents a gold (or) background. Rising from this field is a red (gules) upright sword. This emblem represents the victorious battles of the Genevan militias against the Duke of Savoy's forces in June 1589, as well as the militia camps of the 19th century that took place in Plan-les-Ouates.

Symbolism

The overall design combines these elements to create a symbol of the town's history. The Maltese cross speaks to the Knights and the region's early history, while the sword is a reminder of military engagements and the importance of militias to the municipality.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/che-plan-les-ouates-coa-switzerland-coat-of-arms-pint-glass-16oz-16oz-position1.webp?v=1764564903
