The design is rich with symbolism, reflecting the area's history and the merger of several communities.

Design Elements and Meaning

At the heart of the design is the shield, derived from the arms of the Counts of Bentheim, who held significant lands in the Geldermalsen area during the Middle Ages. This establishes the historical foundation of the design.

Incorporated into the design are elements representing the villages and former municipalities that were merged to form Geldermalsen in 1978. A prominent horse symbolizes Deil, while a column (or pillar) represents Buurmalsen. The fleur-de-lis, a stylized lily, stands for other villages within the municipality, such as Meteren and Rumpt. The inclusion of these elements demonstrates the unity of the new municipality while acknowledging the history of its constituent communities.

The top portion of the shield is rendered in gold, a direct reference to the style of the arms of Beesd, another former municipality that was incorporated into Geldermalsen, further highlighting the history and community of the area.

This meticulously crafted design is a symbol of the history and mergers that formed Geldermalsen and is now of historical interest, as it is no longer the official design for the newly formed West Betuwe.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/coat-of-arms-of-geldermalsen-netherlands-coat-of-arms-pint-glass-16oz-16oz-position1.webp?v=1764652913
https://gomugyourself.com/products/coat-of-arms-of-geldermalsen-netherlands-coat-of-arms-pint-glass-16oz
