The design, officially adopted in 1997 after the merger of Gemert and Bakel en Milheeze, beautifully blends historical influences into a cohesive visual statement.

Key Design Elements

The central element is the shield, or escutcheon, a traditional heraldic form. It features a bold red background, known in heraldry as "in keel." Overlaid on this is a prominent silver (white) cross. Atop the silver cross sits a narrower black (sable) cross, adding depth and detail to the design.

Adding a further layer of distinction, the design incorporates a smaller shield, or inescutcheon, placed at the top of the main shield. This inescutcheon is golden (or) in color and displays a black (sable) eagle, a powerful emblem of historical significance.

Crowning the entire composition is a golden crown, a symbol of dignity and local authority. This crown is adorned with three leaves and two pearls, adding a touch of elegance to the design.

Symbolism and Meaning

The design draws inspiration from the old arms of Gemert, but adapts the cross to reflect the historical ties with the German Order ("Deutsche Orde"). This deliberate modification demonstrates a respect for tradition while embracing the new identity of the merged municipalities. The overall aesthetic aims to encapsulate and represent the rich history of the area.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/coat-of-arms-of-gemert-bakel-netherlands-coat-of-arms-shot-glass-15oz-15oz-position1.webp?v=1765621777
https://gomugyourself.com/products/coat-of-arms-of-gemert-bakel-netherlands-coat-of-arms-shot-glass-1-5oz
