Each field contains stylized shapes representing the traditional Curonian weathervane emblems, locally known as kurenai, associated with the fishing villages of Nida, Preila, Purvynė, Juodkrantė, and Pervalka. These symbols, originally used to identify fishing boats, are rich with local cultural significance.

One white (silver) field within the shield has a symbolic meaning. It represents Karvaiciai and other villages that were historically lost to the shifting sands of the dunes, a poignant reminder of the region's history.

"N" Letter

At the bottom of the design, a silver letter "N" rests against a blue background. This "N" represents the name "Neringa," the newly-named municipality for which the coat of arms was created.

Cultural Context

The graphic elements of the Coat of Arms are rooted in the Curonian weathervane tradition, which served as mandatory boat identification signs on the Curonian Lagoon in the 19th century.
