The design is a vibrant representation of the borough's identity and rich history.

Shield Design

The central element is the shield, its silver (white) background serving as the canvas for the design. Two bold, continuous black bars, each featuring four crenellations (decorative notches), traverse the shield. These "Stege" cleverly reference the district's name, Steglitz, through a visual pun.

Above the Bars

Above the black bars, a prominent black eagle's head faces forward. It is rendered with precise detail, featuring a contrasting red beak and tongue, a classic heraldic symbol. This represents historical ties, or recognition, and was added in the late 19th century by decree of Kaiser Wilhelm I.

Mural Crown

Crowning the shield is a vibrant red three-towered mural crown. This stylized representation of a city wall signifies the municipal status of Steglitz. The central tower is further distinguished by a small shield bearing the coat of arms of Berlin (a bear), which links Steglitz to the larger city-state.

Symbolic Representation

The design elements are steeped in symbolism. The black eagle head traditionally honors imperial authority. The "Stege" are a canting reference to the district's name, originating from local history. The mural crown underscores the urban identity of Steglitz and its municipal significance.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/deu-district-steglitz-coa-germany-coat-of-arms-shot-glass-15oz-15oz-position1.webp?v=1765590871
