The design is dominated by the city's coat of arms (COA), a visual tapestry that reflects centuries of governance and lineage.

Heraldic Elements and Their Story

The central element is the shield, "per pale" (vertically divided) to present two distinct halves. The dexter side (left as you view it) is quartered with alternating argent (silver/white) and sable (black) fields. This heraldic choice adds visual interest and historical depth.

The sinister side (right as you view it) features a vivid azure (blue) background. Above, a silver/white lion passant guardant, its red tongue and claws poised, gazes towards the viewer's left. Below, a silver/white eagle, also with red tongue and claws, completes the composition.

Meaning and Symbolism

The coat of arms symbolizes the historical evolution of Kulmbach. The eagle represents the counts of Andechs-Meranien and their successors, while the lion signifies the counts of Orlamünde, their heirs. These powerful symbols, rooted in the city's past, are brought together on the glass to tell the story of Kulmbach's journey through time.

The design, officially adopted in 1922, preserves the "old tinctures" (colors) and heraldic motifs found on the city's seals since the 15th century. This glass is a celebration of the city's heritage, a visual representation of its enduring spirit.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/deu-kulmbach-banner-coa-germany-pint-glass-16oz-16oz-position1.webp?v=1759506627
