The design showcases the official coat of arms, a striking emblem steeped in heritage and symbolism.

The Shield

The centerpiece of the design is the shield, a classic element of heraldry. It features a silver (argent) background, bisected by a bold red (gules) diagonal stripe known as a bend. Flanking this bend are six small red birds called martlets. This design element is derived from the coat of arms of the de Furnivall family, a prominent Norman family who held land in Dundalk during the Middle Ages. The martlets are an old heraldic symbol, representing continuous effort and flight, and also appear on Dundalk's historic seal.

The Crest and Supporters

Above the shield sits the crest: a majestic gold lion (lion passant guardant), a symbol of strength and royalty. On either side of the shield stand the supporters. On one side, a bear in ermine (white with black spots), representing the Ó hAnluain (O'Hanlon) family, a significant Gaelic lineage in the region. On the other side, a Norman foot soldier in full armor, holding a spear, reflects Dundalk's Anglo-Norman heritage.

The Motto

The design is completed by the motto, inscribed in Irish: "Mé do rug Cú Chulainn cróga," meaning "I gave birth to brave Cú Chulainn." This powerful statement connects Dundalk to the legendary Irish hero Cú Chulainn, emphasizing the town's association with Irish myth and national identity.

This pint glass is a celebration of Dundalk's unique history, blending Norman and Gaelic influences, and honoring the legacy of the town and its people.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/dundalk-town-crest-ireland-coat-of-arms-pint-glass-16oz-16oz-position1.webp?v=1759506787
