The design is a simple yet striking representation of local heritage and history.

Visual Elements

The central element of the design is a silver (argent) "Stabkreuz," also known as a staff-cross or rod cross. This cross is rendered in a clean and elegant style, providing a focal point for the artwork.

The background or "field" is azure (blue), which provides a strong contrast to the silver cross, ensuring its prominence. The combination of silver on blue creates a visually appealing and balanced composition.

Symbolism and Meaning

The "Stabkreuz" represents Erlenbach's historical ties to the Johanniterhaus Küsnacht (Order of St John), which are rooted in obligations that lasted until 1703. The design is a direct link to the community's past and serves as a visual reminder of these significant historical connections.

The original coat of arms in 1597 featured a "facettiertes Tatzenkreuz" on a black field, and the "Stabkreuz" version became the coat of arms after that. Therefore, the simple design is meant to memorialize history and the traditions of the area.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/erlenbach-zh-blazon-switzerland-coat-of-arms-shot-glass-15oz-15oz-position1.webp?v=1765605795
