The pennant is cut to a triangular, swallowtail-notched shape and set on a striped staff, so the flag reads as a banner as much as a pennant. The forms are flat vector shapes, and the colour blocks are crisp, with no decoration beyond the border.

Meaning & Symbolism

The tricolour border carries Hungary's national colours, and the pale blue field marked the command out for signalling. The flag was established on 15 November 1919 by circular decree no. 18497/eln. 7, which standardised the signal flags of the higher military commands. It was adopted in the early months of the Hungarian National Army, and it records how that army formalised its command identity in the wake of the First World War.

A Banner in the Hand

On a mug the pennant point sweeps across the curved white body, and the striped border turns as the cup is lifted. The staff-and-banner form works well on a rounded surface, and the pale blue stands out sharply against the white ceramic.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/flag-of-the-command-of-a-cavalry-division-of-the-hungarian-national-army-1919-with-staff-hungary-white-coffee-mug-11oz-position1.webp?v=1756738911
https://gomugyourself.com/products/flag-of-the-command-of-a-cavalry-division-of-the-hungarian-national-army-1919-with-staff-hungary-white-coffee-mug
