The swallow-tailed fly end gives the flag its distinctive notched outline, and the banner is shown on a staff, so it reads as a ceremonial standard rather than a flat sheet. A black letter H sits in the centre of the white stripe and is the only lettering in the design. The flat vector style keeps the stripes crisp and the proportions simple.

Meaning & Symbolism

The flag was adopted on 15 November 1919, and its red, white and green stripes follow the national colours of Hungary. The H stands for Hadsereg, the Hungarian word for army, which identifies this banner as an army command standard. Early twentieth-century Hungarian military heraldry relied on this kind of direct, lettered device to make a formation recognisable at a distance, and the swallow-tailed notch recalls the naval-style pennants that were widely used in the period.

A Standard Held to the Light

A mug is turned in the hand, so the stripes wrap around the curve and the H shifts slowly into view and out again as the cup moves. Against the white body of the mug the red and green bands read cleanly from across a table. It is a fitting image for a cup that gets lifted and turned many times over the course of a morning.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/flag-of-the-command-of-a-division-of-the-hungarian-national-army-1919-with-staff-hungary-white-coffee-mug-11oz-position1.webp?v=1756759133
https://gomugyourself.com/products/flag-of-the-command-of-a-division-of-the-hungarian-national-army-1919-with-staff-hungary-white-coffee-mug
