The lettering is sans-serif and angular, made of straight strokes that read quickly at distance. The letters HIR sit at the centre, and nothing else competes with them. The composition is simple and direct, the way a field marker has to be to be seen and understood at a glance.

Meaning & Symbolism

The flag belongs to a standardised family of command, branch and station markers used by the army of the Kingdom of Hungary during the interwar years. It was not a national ensign. Its job was practical: to mark a signalling post and identify its function in the field. The 1939 pattern continued the regulations first set in 1928, which is why the design looks so purposeful, with no ornament beyond the marking itself.

A Marker You Can Hold

A mug is turned in the hand, so the letters move across the surface as it is lifted and set down. The black characters stand out sharply against the white ground, and they stay legible from the handle side and across the table, just as a station marker was meant to be read from a distance.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/flag-of-the-signal-stations-of-the-royal-hungarian-defence-forces-1939-hungary-white-coffee-mug-11oz-position1.webp?v=1756744484
https://gomugyourself.com/products/flag-of-the-signal-stations-of-the-royal-hungarian-defence-forces-1939-hungary-white-coffee-mug
