A blue canton in the upper hoist corner holds the white five-pointed stars. The flat vector finish gives each band and star a crisp outline, and the composition is formal and uncluttered.

Meaning & Symbolism

The stripes honour the original thirteen colonies, and the stars represent the states admitted to the Union. This was the national banner through the late nineteenth century, a period of rapid settlement and growth across the western territories. As the number of stars rose during these years, the flag became a visible record of how the country was expanding.

On the Ceramic Mug

A mug is held and turned, so the canton comes into view as you lift the cup and the stripes wrap around its curve. The strong red and white hold their contrast from across the table, and the star field reveals more detail the closer the mug comes to the face.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/flag-of-the-united-states-1877-1890-3-2-aspect-ratio-united-states-white-coffee-mug-11oz-position1.webp?v=1756805961
https://gomugyourself.com/products/flag-of-the-united-states-1877-1890-3-2-aspect-ratio-united-states-white-coffee-mug
