The designation IRL L3118 sits at the centre of the composition, with the word Ireland anchoring the reference to place. The structure comes from the arrangement of letters and numerals alone, so the eye lands on the code first and the geographic label second.

Meaning & Symbolism

In Irish road numbering, the L prefix marks a local road, and the number that follows identifies one specific route in the network. The sign-style presentation borrows the visual language of wayfinding, a short code that tells a traveller exactly where they are. The design turns that functional system into decoration, and its themes of Ireland, designation and typography all point back to classification made visible.

Made for a Mug That Changes

A mug is turned in the hand and read from every side, so a sign-like design has to hold together as the cup rotates. This one does, because the designation repeats its core identity without relying on imagery. As the drink warms, the code comes forward gradually, the way a route is found one junction at a time. Pour in a hot coffee and the designation rises to meet you, a small piece of wayfinding for the morning commute or for a friend who has always known the way.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/irl-l3118-ireland-road-sign-color-changing-mug-11oz-GMY-MUG-RLL-11OZ-28-front.webp?v=1793593246
