Nothing competes with the central idea. The designation L162-AT sits at the heart of the piece as a plain alphanumeric identifier, with the name Austria anchoring it. The road-sign framing gives the work the clean, categorised look of a directional marker, delivering one message directly and without decoration.

Meaning & Symbolism

The designation works as a catalogue code. As an entry in a series, L162-AT treats Austria the way an archivist treats any identifiable place: named precisely and filed for reference. The subject is the country's geography and identity, and the minimalist treatment asks the eye to rest on the place itself rather than on ornament.

On the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is a curved surface you turn in your hand as you stir, so the sign is read in pieces as it wraps around the glass rather than all at once. The narrow lower section sits comfortably in the grip, bringing the design right to where the hand and the eye meet. Because the glass doubles as a serving glass, the same sign moves from the bar cart to the table. Given as a gift, it brings the Austrian road sign into a home bar, where it will be seen every time the shaker comes out.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/l162-at-austria-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-LT-16OZ-1FTNG-front.webp?v=1793649640
