The alphanumeric designation L9-AT is the dominant element, set centrally and read first, with the national reference Austria sitting beside it as the second half of the message. There is no ornament, no border of decoration and no scene. The space around the lettering does the work, so the eye moves straight from the code to the country and back again. The overall effect is orderly and direct, like a sign that is meant to be read at a glance.

Meaning & Symbolism

The L in L9-AT follows the Austrian system of classifying roads, where L-designations mark Landesstraßen, the state roads that connect regions and towns beyond the main national network. The number and suffix work as a locator within that system, so the code is a way of naming a specific route in a specific country. The design takes that practical language of signage and cataloguing and makes it a piece of graphic art, celebrating the quiet logic of how places are labelled.

Reading the Route in Hand

A mixing glass is lifted, tilted and turned as it is used, so the design is seen in motion rather than from across a room. As the glass rises, the tall curved surface carries the code around its shape, and the sign reads whenever it is picked up. Because the lettering is simple and centred, it stays legible from any angle, which suits an object that spends its life being moved from hand to bench and back again. It makes a thoughtful gift for anyone who has ever followed a road sign into somewhere unexpected.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/l9-at-austria-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-LT-16OZ-1FTXQ-front.webp?v=1793650806
