It reads at a glance, the way a highway sign is meant to.

Visual Elements & Composition

The design is built from just two colours, black and white, with white taking up most of the field. The pentagonal badge sits centred and is outlined in a clean, unfussy edge, so the shape alone identifies it as a route shield before any lettering is read. The letters "MG" sit above the numerals "85", set large and evenly spaced. There is no gradient, texture or decorative border. Everything is flat vector, which keeps the sign crisp and high-contrast.

Meaning & Symbolism

The shield is the standard language of the road atlas. In Brazil, state highways carry a two-letter state prefix followed by a number, and "MG" marks Minas Gerais, the inland state known for its mountain ranges and historic towns. Route 85 is one of the numbered state roads that link those towns to the wider network. The design is a straight, modern nod to that system of signage, and to the everyday act of following a route from one place to the next.

Made for the Hand, Not the Highway

A mug turns in the hand, so the sign is seen in pieces as you rotate it, then all at once when it faces you across the table. The black pentagon stays sharp against the white ceramic, making the road code easy to read on a morning cup. It suits anyone who likes their design simple, direct and a little bit of a travel souvenir.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/mg-085-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-MG085-11OZ-front.webp?v=1793834107
