mg-199-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug
MG-199 (Brazil) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

MG-199 (Brazil) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

This design shows a pentagonal state route marker reading MG 199, drawn in black on white.

Visual Elements & Composition

White fills nearly four-fifths of the design, with black carrying the outer outline, an inner border and the lettering. The marker is a pentagon, a five-sided shield that differs from the rounded federal shields used on Brazil's national roads. Inside it, the letters MG sit above the number 199. The layout is symmetrical and uncluttered, so the code is the only point of interest.

Meaning & Symbolism

MG is the state code for Minas Gerais, and the pentagonal shield marks a state-level route rather than a federal one. Pairing the code with its number tells a driver which state road they are on, and the difference in shape signals the level of government that maintains it. The design captures the way Brazil's road signs layer national and regional identity on the same sheet of metal.

Life on the Mug

A mug is turned in the hand, so the pentagon comes around slowly, its angled corners and inner border passing across the eye one side at a time. The crisp black lettering stays clear against the smooth white surface, and the compact five-sided form sits neatly on the curve of the cup. It is a good fit for anyone who likes a little regional character with their morning coffee.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/mg-199-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-MG199-11OZ-front.webp?v=1793834386
