The code and the country name dominate the surface, with no decorative border, illustration or background detail to compete with them. The arrangement reads like a road sign, with a designation set at the centre and a place name anchoring it, so the viewer's eye moves directly from the identifier to the country.

Meaning & Symbolism

The piece explores two kinds of marker. A code like MG-212 is systematic labelling, a way of sorting and locating something within an orderly structure. Brazil is geographic identity, the national place that gives the code its context. Placed together, they ask how a labelling system and a sense of place meet. The work belongs to conceptual art, where the idea is the subject and the surface stays plain.

Designed for the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is a tall vessel that you hold and turn as you work, so the design wraps around a curved, upright surface and reveals itself gradually. The code and country name stay legible from the hand, and the sign-like arrangement suits a form that is read at close range. Its restraint suits a piece that is used and handled often, so the message stays clear each time it is lifted.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/mg-212-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-MG212-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793764146
