mg-268-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz
MG-268 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

MG-268 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

This design takes the form of a road sign, a familiar piece of public signage, and gives it one subject: Brazil, identified by the designation MG-268.

Visual Elements & Composition

The composition centres on a single sign, with the name Brazil and the designation MG-268 set as the lettering that carries the whole image. Nothing competes with it. The layout is stripped back to one focal point, so the eye lands on the sign and reads it straight through, the way a driver reads a sign from the road.

Meaning & Symbolism

A road sign exists to direct and inform in an instant, and the artwork borrows that purpose. Turning the sign into a picture of Brazil marks the country as a destination, signposted the way travellers signpost every route: with a shape they recognise before they have read a word. The MG-268 designation sits alongside the name as a reference code, placing the piece as one identifiable item in its series.

On the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is lifted, tilted and turned in the hand while it is stirred and poured, so the sign never sits still. Its straight-sided form carries the artwork around the vessel, and each turn brings a new stretch of lettering into view. It is a fitting piece for a round of drinks shared with someone who has spent a long time on the road, and a good conversation starter for anyone who has ever followed a sign to somewhere worth going.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/mg-268-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-MG268-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793765407
