mg-286-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug
MG-286 (Brazil) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

MG-286 (Brazil) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

A black pentagonal route badge on white, with an inner border framing the code "MG 286".

Visual Elements & Composition

The design is set in black and white alone, with white covering close to four-fifths of the surface. The pentagon is the single shape, outlined in black and echoed by a thinner inner border that sits just inside its edge. "MG" is placed across the upper part of the badge and "286" beneath it, in bold, upright capitals and numerals. The arrangement is centred and symmetrical with no background detail, so the eye moves straight to the lettering. The flat vector treatment keeps the edges hard and the contrast strong.

Meaning & Symbolism

The badge follows the convention of Brazilian state route markers, where a two-letter state code precedes the road number. "MG" marks Minas Gerais, the inland state known for its mountain ranges, historic towns and long mining heritage. Route 286 is one of the numbered roads within that state's network. The design takes an ordinary piece of wayfinding and presents it alone, so that the regional identity rests on the code and the form of the sign.

How It Sits in the Hand

A mug is turned as it is lifted, so the shield first appears as an edge of black against the white, then opens into the full badge as the cup comes round to face you. The inner border holds its line across the curved wall, and the three figures stay legible at the distance of a table. It suits a cup that is handled many times a day, and a sign designed to be read at a glance.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/mg-286-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-MG286-11OZ-front.webp?v=1793833594
