mg-292-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz
MG-292 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

MG-292 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

This design takes the form of a road sign bearing the code MG-292 and a reference to Brazil, presented as a plain, direct statement of a route.

Visual Elements & Composition

The composition rests on text. The alphanumeric designation MG-292 is the dominant element, with the name Brazil set alongside it. Nothing decorative competes with the code, so the eye settles on the numerals and the hyphen first, then on the place name. The layout is simple and centred on that pairing, in the manner of a route marker that needs to be read at a glance.

Meaning & Symbolism

The code follows the numbering system used for state highways in Minas Gerais, the Brazilian state whose prefix is MG. Road numbers of this kind work as navigation: they tell a driver which route they are on and where it leads, rather than telling a story. The artwork carries that function over from the road to the glass. Its subject is a route identifier, and its meaning lies in the connection between a numbered road and the country that contains it.

Made for the Mixing Glass in Hand

A mixing glass is handled close and turned as it is used, so the design is read in short glances rather than from across a room. The sign's stark text sits on a curved surface that the hand rotates, which keeps the code legible from whichever side is facing up. For someone who keeps a route number close to hand, this is a fitting pairing: a navigational marker on an everyday vessel, read each time the glass is picked up.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/mg-292-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-MG292-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793773351
