mg-417-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug
MG-417 (Brazil) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

MG-417 (Brazil) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

A utilitarian pentagonal road shield, edged in black on an almost entirely white field, gives this Brazil-themed design its clean, signage-like character.

Visual Elements & Composition

The pentagon is the single element on the surface, outlined in black with an inner border that keeps the edge crisp. The letters MG and the route number 417 sit inside it in plain black type, stacked one above the other. White covers the great majority of the area, with only a faint grey trace, so the layout is spare and the shield reads immediately in a flat vector style.

Meaning & Symbolism

MG is the standard abbreviation for Minas Gerais, one of Brazil's states, and 417 identifies this particular route. Route shields exist so that travellers can find their way without reading a map, and the design keeps that purpose at its centre. It stands for the working road network that connects the state's towns and rural districts.

Reading the Shield on the Mug

On a mug the shield wraps around a curved wall, so the pentagon bends gently as the cup is turned in the hand. The high contrast between the black outline and the white ground keeps the lettering clear from the first glance to the last sip.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/mg-417-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-MG417-11OZ-front.webp?v=1793833209
