Nothing decorative competes with the identifier. The numerals and lettering carry the whole design, and the layout is spare and direct, the way a route marker is made to be read at a glance.

Meaning & Symbolism

MG-474 is a state highway designation. "MG" is the abbreviation for Minas Gerais, one of Brazil's states, and 474 is the route number within its road network. The design takes a working piece of infrastructure, the kind of marker drivers pass without a second look, and gives it a place among the Brazilian, cultural and geographic themes it is catalogued under. It is a reference to one specific road in one specific place.

On the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is tall, narrows toward its base and is held close, turned in the hand as it is filled and poured. The sign wraps that curved body, so the route number sits under your hand each time you lift it, much as a driver reads a marker from a moving seat. Set beside a Brazil-themed gift, the design gives the recipient a clear talking point: the road it names is a real one, and the glass makes it something to pick up and look at again.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/mg-474-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-MG474-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793758323
