p81-by-belarus-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz
P81-BY (Belarus) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

P81-BY (Belarus) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

This design takes Belarus as its subject and carries it through a single coded identifier, P81-BY, rather than through pictures of landscape or landmark.

Visual Elements & Composition

The composition is spare and deliberate. Ornament is kept to a minimum, so the eye goes straight to the designation itself. The P81-BY code is the centrepiece, and its letters and numerals do the work that a more elaborate illustration would otherwise do. Nothing competes with it, which gives the piece the clean, reduced look of a sign or a label.

Meaning & Symbolism

The design's meaning rests on its naming. P81-BY follows the logic of regional and geographical classification, and the "BY" element is the country code that identifies Belarus. By presenting the code as the artwork, the design treats national identity as something that can be stated plainly, the way a place is named on a map or a sign. The themes are geography, national identity and regional identification, and the mood is neutral: this is a statement of place, not a celebration of spectacle.

On the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is a tall, narrow vessel that is lifted, turned and held close, so the design is read at close range rather than from across a room. The P81-BY code sits within easy view as the glass is handled, and its minimal layout suits a surface that is seen in the hand. Given as a gift, it makes a quiet, cheeky nod to somewhere specific, and it lets the recipient pick out the code and ask where it comes from.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/p81-by-belarus-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-PBY-16OZ-1FT8J-front.webp?v=1793659427
