Yellow carries the most visual weight in the layout, and the black initials "A" and "W" sit within the yellow band, marking this period's version apart from the plain national flag. The shapes are bold and flat, and the arrangement is orderly and symmetrical.

Meaning & Symbolism

Green stands for hope and Islam, yellow for the nation's natural wealth, and red for the independence struggle and the sacrifices made for it. The star at the centre is green and anchors the composition. The initials identify the standard as the one used during Wade's presidency, which ran from 2000 to 2012.

On the Mug

A standard is designed to be seen from a distance, but a mug puts the tricolour in the hand at close range. As the cup is turned, the bands change in sequence, and the star and initials come into view when it is lifted. The white ceramic lets the yellow and red read at their true strength.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/presidential-standard-of-senegal-under-abdoulaye-wade-senegal-white-coffee-mug-11oz-position1_6e698197-44f9-4120-a5ec-cf972242a11f.webp?v=1772545100
https://gomugyourself.com/products/presidential-standard-of-senegal-under-abdoulaye-wade-senegal-white-coffee-mug
