Nothing is layered on for decoration, so the eye goes straight to the subject. The result is a sign-like graphic presence, deliberate and direct, with the road sign format giving the piece its clear, instructional character.

Meaning & Symbolism

Brazil is the largest country in South America, and its regional identity runs through this design's code. "RJ" is the standard abbreviation for Rio de Janeiro state, so the reference points to a specific place within the country rather than to Brazil in general. Signs have always been a way of telling travellers where they are and where they are going, and that idea sits neatly at the heart of a piece that marks out a place on the map.

Made for the Mixing Glass in Hand

A mixing glass is a tall, curved vessel that spends its working life held close, turned and tilted at eye level. Here the artwork wraps around that curve, so the design reads as the glass is lifted and the drink is poured. It makes a fitting choice for anyone who has a favourite corner of Brazil to toast, or a friend who has already planned the trip.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/rj-093-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-RJ093-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793746770
