The letters RJ sit above the numerals 129, both in black, and they fill the centre of the shape. White dominates the field, and a small amount of grey appears only as an edge tone. The layout is symmetrical and compact, leaving no ornament to compete with the marker.

Meaning & Symbolism

A route shield is a standard way of marking a numbered road, and this one reads as a Brazilian state route. RJ is the abbreviation for Rio de Janeiro state, and 129 is the road number within that network. The double outline gives the shield its distinct silhouette, and the design treats the road sign as a graphic symbol of direction and place, drawn in a modern, minimal style.

Built for the Glass

A shot glass is small and held close, so the shield is read from a few inches away, almost at eye level with the rim. The pentagon's straight edges and the bold lettering hold their shape against the curve of the glass. The contrast between the black lines and the white field makes the marker easy to pick out in a bar or on a shelf, and the design rewards a second look.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/rj-129-brazil-road-sign-shot-glass-15oz-GMY-SHOT-RJ129-1P5OZ-front.webp?v=1793818256
